David Hamilton
b. 1965, East Melbourne, Australia
Lives and works in Melbourne, Australia

David Hamilton is a contemporary artist and art teacher who lives and works in Melbourne, Australia. His practice focuses upon painting and drawing, exploring the traditional genres of landscape, portraiture and still life.

His work shows a range of stylistic approaches often emphasising formal and abstract values. Particularly evident in his paintings and tonal drawings is a preoccupation with surface. These display a reductive, almost minimalist approach to his expression of subject, which take on a symbolic presence.

Hamilton graduated from RMIT University, Melbourne with a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree (Honours) and later completed a Master of Art by Research in Painting also at RMIT University, Melbourne.

He has exhibited his work in solo, group and touring exhibitions including 8 X 8 IN 88 and The Matchbox Show (both curated by the late Artist Mike Brown) and with the former Stella Dimadis Galleries in Collingwood, Melbourne.

He is currently represented by Gallery Jennings Kerr in New South Wales, Australia.

Hamilton has an extensive teaching background as an Art educator and Lecturer. He has taught within the Schools of Fine Art, Interior Design and Fashion at RMIT University, Melbourne and the  Department of Fine Art at Monash University, Caufield.

His work is held in numerous private collections.
